July 3, 2018, I lost control of my WordPress website on. It looked like I got hacked? I could not get access to my website via the admin page, username and password. I have a password manager and I use it all the time to access my websites. I did not understand what was happening. Then I manually I tried the WordPress Admin, “Forgot Password” and it did not work.
I called Hostgator customer support and they helped me to get access to my website however I did not realized my WordPress dashboard controls were gone. There was no Icon that would get me to the dashboard.
I called Hostgator again and then I got a technical guy. He tried different things but still could not regain my dashboard controls. He told me to backup my data.
I am not very technical with my WordPress. I looked at Youtube videos and tried some things via the Cpanel. It did not work and I could not get control of my website dashboard.
Today, July 14, 2018, I got Tiffany at Hostgator, a very nice female customer service person and knowledgeable. She removed the problem WordPress and re-installed the latest version of WordPress. Now, everything is working!
When I was looking at the Youtube videos, I saw a plugin that I will start to utilize, BACKUP. I now see how important it is to back up periodically ALL the work I put into creating this website. In case I ever get Hacked or have a WordPress Update that affects a plugin, I will be ready!
